Victorian Religious Images Printed In Germany

These are large single scraps from Germany, printed on thicker paper than the larger sheets of scraps we sell. They're perfect for scrapbooking, ornament or card making or shrines. We have a wide selection of large single Victorian themed paper scraps on our site on in our Etsy shop. If you need more than one of any style, no worries, we stocked up and have them in multiples. We'll show you some of the other large scraps we have over the next few days.

Vintage Handmade Millinery Anemone from Czechoslovakia

What a gorgeous millinery flower, handmade in Czechoslovakia in the 1950s and still with its original paper tag! We have these in several colors, but I must say, I think I like this pale blue one the best!

Old Fashioned Millinery Forget Me Nots For Any Time Of Year

We love old fashioned flocked paper millinery forget me nots. They've been popular for years for hats, sashes, nosegays and bouquets. Even though we're a ways off from Easter, we thought you'd like to see how you can use the flowers massed in a basket. We have a good supply of different colors right now on our website and in our Etsy shop. Some of the colors will work for autumn and Christmas, too!

Flowers Inside and Out

Today was an Easter to remember for a rather unusual reason: a 7.2 earthquake centered in Baja California south of Mexicali gave us quite a good and long shake in the afternoon. Ironically, the quake was at a latitude of 32 Degrees North!

Otherwise we had a nice quiet Easter with splendid weather and good company. Here's a mosaic with flowers from the garden as well as flowers and textures that appear on some of my favorite inside pieces.

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter!

Be sure to visit Mary over at Little Red House for more mosaics!

The Easter Decorations Come Out... and So Do the Flowers!

Sunshine showed up today ! After patchy clouds, rain storms, and chilly breezes, it seems that spring is finally here. All the flowers blooming in the garden inspired us to bring out our Easter decorations, after all, it is just three weeks away. Have you decorated yet?

Be sure to visit Mary over at Little Red House for more pretty mosaics.

Easter Preparations

We've added tons of Easter items to our etsy shop this week. Here's a quick sampling.... Above is a set of paper and lace egg ornaments we've made from scratch using items we carry (paper scraps from Germany, forget me not flowers, Dresden trims) plus metallic paint and vintage lace.

Above and below are hand blown glass eggs from the Czech Republic just begging to be embellished or displayed as they are. Find more styles here.

Below is a sisal and paper bunny with a straw carrot.

And finally a chick candy container reminiscent of the vintage style ones of the 1950s.

Hard to believe Easter is in 3 weeks! It's finally feeling like spring around here this week: breezy, crisp and plenty of sunshine. The garden is starting to show spring as well. Stay tuned for a glimpse of our own Easter decorations and a bit of garden color.

The Origins of The Easter Bunny

The first written mention of the Easter Bunny was made in southwestern Germany in the 1600s. By the early 1800s, Easter Bunnies, or "Osterhase," were being made of sugar and pastry. When Germans emigrated to Pennsylvania in the 1700s, they brought their traditions to America, including the yearly visit from the Easter Bunny. Children typically built nests using their caps and bonnets and tucked them away at home to receive colorful eggs, if they'd been good boys and girls. The nests were eventually replaced by baskets, which are still commonly used today.
