Fall Decorating: Cone Cornucopias

One of my absolute favorite things in our shop is the millinery.  I love sorting it, photographing it and, of course, doing things with it.  Above are a couple of my top picks -- a spray of autumn colored maple leaves, vintage white cherries and vintage button mushrooms.  They mixed in perfectly with other seasonal fruits and leaves to top off a few handmade paper cones.

Much like the treat buckets, we used pretty Italian papers, ribbons and Dresden trims to create these cones.  Plus a scrap of a girl holding a cornucopia.  I'm very into the large turkey Dresdens -- we just got them in today so they'll be in the shop and on the website first thing tomorrow.

We made each cone unique but kept it pretty cohesive color-wise.  Left to right we have a velvet leaf/nut and vintage exotic fruit cone, an autumn floral cone with both vintage and contemporary flowers and, last but not least, a fruit cone with all vintage Japanese and German berries, fruits and chili.

Have you started thinking Thanksgiving crafting? Or is Thanksgiving more of a cooking holiday for you? It's definitely a time for baking around here.  And for... mmm... turkey sandwiches!

We're Having a Giveaway!

Journals in detail.

What's this mosaic, you ask? Why, it's a group of detail shots of the three handmade journals we're giving away!

TO ENTER THE GIVEAWAY:
Please leave a comment telling us your favorite item in our etsy shop or on our website.

ENTRY DEADLINE IS MIDNIGHT THURSDAY, JUNE 3, 2010 (Pacific Time) The three winners will be randomly chosen and notified on Friday, June 4th (be sure to leave a way for us to contact you if you win.) Please note that you must live in the USA to win.

The first journal up for grabs.

No two journals are alike. Each measures 9 3/4" x 7 1/2" with 100 sheets of wide ruled white paper made from 80% sugarcane pulp.

The second journal features pretty flower girls.

We created these journals using supplies offered in our etsy shop and on our website, which include authentic gilded Florentine paper from Italy, paper scraps from Germany and England and gold foil Dresden paper trims.

The third journal has an extra large pair of angels.

The inside covers are all lined with c. 1930s sheet music and the inside front covers each have a unique scrap or dresden as well.

A peek inside.

Hope you're all having a wonderful holiday weekend! And be sure to visit Mary at Little Red House for more mosaics.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Here's a quick sampling of a few of my current favorites from our etsy shop.
Above, a sheet of glittered German bird scraps.

Last but not least, I'm loving the soft hues of this steel blue Dresden trim, floral border scraps from Germany and pink Dresden flower trim.

What are your favorite things right now?

Tara's Kitchen Shelf

Tara's treasures pre-paper.

It's not often that we get to see how our customers use the supplies they find in our shop, so we were just delighted when Tara shared her shelf lining project with us!

Using several sheets of Italian paper, and a very keen eye for pattern matching, she lined the back of her kitchen shelf in about two hours.

All finished!

We love it! Along with a few other treasures, like those salt and peppers and vintage scales.

UPDATE: Here's one more shot with everything put back in place:
